Sky is also known as BSkyB which means British Sky Broadcasting Group which is based in London and provides TV, Internet/Broadband and phone lines to people in England an Ireland it has formed fairly recently compared to The BBC and ITV who first formed in 1922 and 1954 which is much older than Sky which formed in 1990 and already has over 11 million users making it one of the most popular broadcasters in the world. Sky was Founded by Rupert Murdoch in 1989 before it had even been fully launched it had already started expanding around England but by 1990 Sky was already in major financial debt and was struggling making massive losses. Another broadcaster who was struggling at that time was British Satellite Broadcasters who were also making gigantic amounts of debt in that same year they both decided to merge into one company saving sky financially and also helped sky advertising campaign by getting BSB’s advertising contracts and better equipment in the year 1998 sky had launched more satellites and gone digital and had the potential to have hundreds of programmes and radio stations. Originally sky only had 4 channels so this was a major boost of potential sales and income. By the year 2010 Sky had confirmed that they had reached there target of being installed into 10 million homes in the United Kingdom. In 2012 James Murdoch resigned as the co-chairman of BSkyB due to the News of the World phone hacking scandals

Over time Sky has changed to keep up with technology needs of customers and has and still does work with Amstrad which was once famous for its high quality computers and technology they have also made all of Sky’s top boxes HD and has always been sky main supplier of Hardware. Sky has recently invested 16 million pounds into the research of encryption technology which protects messages and other stored information that should be confidential. Sky have also bought shares in Zeebox which is an app which combines social networking with real time figures which was created by someone from the BBC, witch could link both of the companies together. Sky has said that they are also going to take some of the technology from Zeebox and put it on an app that they are soon to make which can link the phone, I pad or any other android product to the top boxes they make to be like a control or to be able to watch sky TV from a handheld device.

One of the ways that they are funded is from the Sky box subscription. It also gets money from the adverts it puts on its channels. It also gets money from product placement. They have APF (advertising funding programme). This is where they get companies that are big to have their adverts on the channel and they pay them amount.
